VIEWS are being sought over traffic issues in Harlow and Bishop’s Stortford.

Essex County Council and Hertfordshire County Coun-cil are asking residents and employers in the towns to help provide information which will go towards designing transport infrastructure in the area.

Travel surveys sent to every household and dozens of employers ask detailed questions about peoples’ travel habits.

The questionnaires are designed to be as simple to fill in as possible with a freepost envelope to return it by Friday, July 4.

Essex County Council highways and transportation cabinet member Norman Hume said: “The Harlow-Stansted Gateway is a rapidly expanding area and the information gathered will be an invaluable tool in submitting business cases to central government for major transport schemes.

“These surveys are voluntary and I don’t want the questionnaires to intrude on resident’s lives, but it really is important for us all to take part if we can because it will help us make better transport choices for the future so that we can all have a better quality of life.”

Hertfordshire County Council highways, transport and rural affairs executive member Stuart Pile said:” These surveys will provide us with vital information on people’s transport needs travel patterns and help us to plan to meet the transport expectations and aspirations of all of us in the future.

“I hope everyone will take part if they can because it’s through working together that we can come up with the transport solutions that will help us all get to work, school or see family and friends conveniently in the future.”

There will also be car park surveys and automatic and other traffic data collected which will help identify traffic flows in the towns.
