YOUNGSTERS aged between 11 and 18 are invited to get involved with Phoenix Theatre School which is seeking 50 enthusiastic young people to take part in the “maddest and baddest” theatrical event of the year.

Blast, which has run every year at The Playhouse, in Harlow, for the past ten years, is being produced by former manager Phil Dale and will be led by Jeanne Stacey, former head of Performing Arts at Birchwood High School, in Bishop’s Stortford.

The participants will have seven days to put on a piece of theatre before they perform in front of an audience of more than 200 people on The Playhouse main stage.

Professional producers, directors, choreographers and musical directors will be working with the young people.

Mr Dale said: “Blast is a really great experience for all those involved. It’s more than just a theatrical experience. It’s a great opportunity for those involved to forge new friendships as well as learn new skills.

“We’re really lucky this year to have financial support from The Jack Petchey Foundation and the Harlow Playhouse Charitable Trust. It means we’ve managed to put together a great team of professionals to work with the young people. I can promise it will be a week they’ll never forget!”

The course, which runs from July 27 until August 2, costs £80. Application forms can be downloaded at www.phoenixtheatreschool.co.uk or are available by ringing 08456 800 640.
