BISHOP'S Stortford rider Elaine Hazelwood thrilled the crowds at the Petplan Equine Area Festival to take the Advanced Medium Restricted Championship title.

The 40-yeard-old, riding on 16.2hh bay mare Donnatella II, scored a superb 63.79 per cent at the ninth annual Petplan Equine Area Festival Finals at Hartpury Arena.

Running alongside the British Dressage Winter Championships, the show attracted hundreds of talented combinations from all over the UK.

An initial entry of 2,600 combinations entered the regional competitions, which were held from August through to October last year.

From these, over 280 combinations competed over five days at Hartpury Arena for the six new Petplan Equine Area Festival Championship titles ranging from Preliminary Champion to the Prix St George Champion.

The preliminary and novice classes attracted such a huge entry that the classes had to be split into two rounds.

Jo Whitaker, from Petplan Equine, said: ""Every year the standard of riding gets higher and higher, with this year being no exception.

"We hope everyone enjoyed the Championships as much as we did."
