THE family of a Harlow man who died from a head injury following an altercation over a taxi cab booking following a night out have described him as a "lovely man who was always smiling".

Police launched a murder investigation following the death of Mr White, 34, of Broadfields, Harlow, at Princess Alexandra Hospital on Good Friday evening. He was taken there following an incident in the town centre at 2.30am the same day.

In a statement, his family said: "He was a lovely man who was always smiling and got on with everyone. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him."

Mr White had been with his partner, Tanya, for four years although they had known each other since school.

The couple, who had planned to get married this year, have an eight-month-old daughter and three stepchildren.

Three men, aged 20, 21 and 26, arrested in connection with the incident have been released on police bail until May 21 pending further investigations.

In a message emailed to the Harlow Citizen, family friend Leanne Walsh said: "We have all lost a very special person who touched each and every one of our lives in a very special way. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Mark would know what a lovely, caring, kind, gentle man he was."

She added: "I'm finding it hard to come to terms with. We grew up together and shared many memories and I shall hold on to them for ever.

"My heart and love are with his family and his beautiful baby girl Rae."

Friend Cheryl Griffiths said: "He was one of the nicest men you could wish to meet, a right family man.

"This is a true tragedy and so many lives have been affected. I don't know how his family will ever come to terms with this. It just seems to me that Mark was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"He will be sorely missed by all who knew him."
