POLICE are appealing for help following a ram-raid on a parts dealership in Rayner Road, Bishop's Stortford.
A stolen Peugeot was used to ram the double doors of the Partco Autoparts Garage between 8.30pm and 9.35pm last Wednesday.
While the bottom part of the doors were smashed and the metal frame buckled the ramraiders were unable to break the doors down and so then used a hammer and paving slab to try and smash the glass in the door.
After causing £2,000 damage they drove off in the car leaving the hammer and slab behind.
The damaged car, which had been stolen from Essex, was later found nearby.
Acting manager Matt Lee said: "They didn't gain entry to the site, which was lucky, but we have a full security system and alarms on the building. The damage is likely to run into thousands."
He added: "We were concerned we wouldn't be able to trade but I'm happy to say that thanks to the efforts of staff we made sure it was business at usual. There's a temporary counter and I would personally like to thank my staff who worked so hard to get all our orders out."
